An article which appeared in the August 2008 edition of the Four Four Two Magazine
Brisbane Celtic FC was formed this year for the benefit of the younger members of Brisbane Celtic Supporters Club.  This us a unique phenomenon with supporters clubs dedicated to supporting the famous Scottish team (with Irish roots) Celtic FC in every major city in the world.  This makes migrating easier, as the Celtic expats have a readymade group of friends ready to help their families assimilate into their new surroundings.  The club have some useful Celtic FC connections, Secretary/player Paul Mochan is the grandson of legendary Celtic player Neilly Mochan, who was also the coach to the famous Lisbon Lions 1967 European Cup winning team, Andy lynch who captained Celtic in the seventies and his son Simon, who after leaving Celtic played the last two seasons for Queensland Roar in tghe A League.  Simon is also president of the football team, and arranged for his old team mate, current Celtic Captain Steven McManus to sign a goodwill message to the lads on one of their club polo tops.  Amazing but true, Oasis leader, Noel Gallagher is also an Hon member of the club, which he gratefully accepted after visiting Brisbane in 2006.

The team was founded by donations from members which allowed the team to purchase their beloved Celtic FC home and away strip.  The side is  mainly Irish and Scots ex pats who have moved to Australia in the last few years, and love to play football and socialize together afterwards.  As some of the lads had been backpacking around Oz for a while, getting some of them back into shape was hard work, with lots of pulled muscles in the 12 week pre season training build up.  The Celts have high expectations for their club as they hope to compete for trophies in the Brisbane Commercial League, some of the players could have played at a much higher level, Irish Premier League club Galway United tried to sign full back Michael (Duracell) Brogan, before he left for Australia last year, and Grant Elliott played for Celtic Youth and then Scottish second Division outfit Ayr United before going to University.

They started their first ever game last week with a resounding 8 - 0 cup win, the clubs mission is to try and raise enough money to eventually have their own pitch and clubhouse and work their way up the leagues.

There is an ironic twist to the tale of a club being started by mainly immigrants of Irish Origin in another country, because that is exactly the same reason Celtic FC were formed back in 1888 in Glasgow, Scotland.
